Chief Cushman started his law enforcement career in 1978 serving in the Kankakee County area and transferring to the Champaign City Police Department in 1995. After retiring from the Champaign City Police Department, Chief Cushman served as an adjunct instructor for the University of Illinois Police Training Institute and also as an instructor for the Transportaion Security Administration. Chief Cushman assumed the office of Chief of Police for the Gibson City Police Department in 2006. During his career, Chief Cushman has served as a K-9 officer, underwater recovery diver, police training officer, firearms instructor, swat squad leader and sniper. Though his background is tactical, Chief Cushman has 14 years experience as a small community Chief of Police and brings a fresh and professional direction to the Gibson City Police Department.
